Ear Slit Repair Surgery

A split extending through an earlobe

Ear slit repair surgery, also known as earlobe repair, is a minor surgical procedure performed to restore a split, torn, or elongated earlobe.

At Shubhashree Skin and Hair Clinic, the procedure is carefully planned to improve the shape, symmetry, and appearance of the earlobe while creating a natural-looking result.

What Causes an Ear Slit?

An earlobe may become partially or completely torn due to:

  • Wearing heavy earrings for a prolonged period
  • Accidental pulling or trauma from earrings
  • Gradual stretching of the piercing hole
  • Large or elongated earrings and gauges

How Is Ear Slit Repair Performed?

The procedure is generally performed under local anaesthesia, so the area is numb and discomfort is minimal.

  1. The earlobe is examined and the extent of the tear is assessed.
  2. Local anaesthesia is administered.
  3. The damaged edges of the earlobe are carefully refreshed.
  4. The tissue is precisely repositioned and sutured to restore the natural contour of the earlobe.
  5. Fine sutures are used to achieve a neat and cosmetically pleasing scar.

The procedure is usually completed as an outpatient procedure, allowing you to return home the same day.

When Can I Wear Earrings Again?

Earrings should not be worn immediately after surgery. The repaired tissue needs sufficient time to heal and regain strength. Our dermatologist will advise you when it is appropriate to consider re-piercing, if desired. When re-piercing is possible, it is usually planned away from the original repair line.
